Youth Mental Health and Resiliency Summit

Presented By United Way of Hall County

May 4th 2023 6 PM | First Presbyterian Church | 800 S. Enota Drive NE| Gainesville, GA 30501

Caleb Campbell is a West Point graduate, former Army Officer and ex-NFL Linebacker. After a college football career at West Point full of accolades and awards, Caleb made history when he was selected by the Detroit Lions in the 2008 NFL Draft. He is the American dream that most students strive to become, but it wasn’t until he was cut for the last time by the Kansas City Chiefs that he was forced to face a hard truth: He had a lived a life of strength on the outside, but internally he was falling apart.

Despite living out his childhood dream and having a life that many would envy, a day never went by where Caleb felt “he’d found his place in this world”. Having lived through rejection, depression, self-medication, and thoughts of suicide, Caleb understands the pressures that many are facing. He has endured an ongoing internal struggle, and has overcome it by finding his voice. Caleb is a leading mental health advocate for teens and student athletes around the world, and one of TEEN TRUTH’s best speakers.

Participants at this forum will learn about evidence-based CRM training by Wellroot. The Community Resilience Model (CRM) is a framework developed to help individuals and communities develop skills and strategies to cope with and recover from traumatic events, disasters, or other stressors. The model was developed by Elaine Miller-Karas and the Trauma Resource Institute, and it is based on the idea that resilience is a dynamic process that involves the interplay between individuals, families, and communities.

The CRM consists of six core skills or strategies, known as the “Community Resiliency Model Skills.”

These skills are:

  • Tracking: Paying attention to bodily sensations to help regulate emotional responses to stressors.
  • Grounding: Using sensory experiences to stay present in the moment and reduce feelings of disconnection or dissociation.
  • Resourcing: Identifying internal and external resources that can help cope with stressors and build resilience.
  • Regulating: Using self-soothing techniques to regulate emotional responses to stressors.
  • Connecting: Engaging with others and building social support to help cope with stressors and build resilience.
  • Repairing: Addressing and resolving any disruptions to relationships, connections, or trust that may have been caused by the stressor.
  • The CRM is a community-based model that emphasizes collaboration, empowerment, and self-care. It has been used in a variety of settings, including schools, healthcare organizations, and disaster response efforts, to help individuals and communities build resilience and cope with stressors.

Caleb is an inspiring and informative speaker who will lead this free forum for parents, grandparents, teachers, and anyone working to strengthen relationships and build resiliency skills. Registration is not required and the forum is free and open to the public. See you May 4 at 6 PM at First Presbyterian Church.
